Previous project experience

Secondary School Smart Classroom Installation

Installation of smart classroom lighting, two-compartment teaching wall trunking and Promethean interactive boards within a secondary school environment.

Previous project experience: This case study reflects electrical installation experience gained by PWM Engineering’s director prior to forming PWM Engineering LTD. It is included to demonstrate relevant site capability, education-sector experience and practical installation knowledge.
Sector

Education

Secondary school classroom refurbishment and technology upgrade works.

Role

Electrical Installation

Installation of lighting, trunking and classroom display infrastructure.

Systems

Smart Classrooms

Smart lighting, teaching wall containment and Promethean interactive boards.

Focus

Minimal Disruption

Working within an education setting with practical reuse of existing circuits where suitable.

Project overview

This previous project involved electrical installation works within a secondary school as part of a classroom technology and lighting upgrade. The works included smart lighting installation, use of existing electrical circuits where suitable, new two-compartment trunking to teaching walls and installation of Promethean interactive boards.

The requirement

The school required upgraded classroom infrastructure to support modern teaching spaces. The installation needed to provide improved lighting control, suitable containment for teaching wall services and secure installation of interactive display equipment while making practical use of existing circuits where appropriate.

Scope of work

  • Installation of smart lighting within classroom areas.
  • Assessment and use of existing circuits where suitable for the new classroom lighting arrangements.
  • Installation of two-compartment trunking to teaching walls.
  • Segregation of services within containment to support classroom power and data/AV requirements.
  • Installation of Promethean interactive boards to teaching walls.
  • Coordination of electrical containment and classroom equipment positions.
  • General electrical installation support within an occupied education environment.

Technical considerations

The project required a practical approach to classroom refurbishment works, including safe reuse of existing circuits where suitable, neat installation of new trunking and coordination of power and low-voltage services around teaching wall equipment. The two-compartment trunking provided a tidy and maintainable solution for classroom services while supporting the installation of interactive boards.

Outcome

The works helped modernise teaching spaces by providing smart lighting and improved classroom display infrastructure. The project demonstrates hands-on installation experience in an education environment, including containment, lighting, classroom technology and coordination around existing building services.

Relevant capability demonstrated
