Project overview

This previous project involved the full electrical strip-out and rewire of residential accommodation within a specialist residential school for children with health-related needs. The works required a practical and careful approach because the building formed part of a sensitive accommodation environment where safety, reliability and workmanship were especially important.

The requirement

The existing electrical installation required removal and replacement as part of a wider accommodation upgrade. The scope included stripping out redundant electrical equipment, rewiring the building, installing new lighting and socket outlets, and improving the local LV distribution arrangements serving the accommodation.

Scope of work

  • Full strip-out of redundant electrical accessories, wiring and equipment.
  • Rewire of residential accommodation areas.
  • Installation of new lighting throughout the building.
  • Installation of new socket outlets and small power circuits.
  • Review and improvement of local LV distribution arrangements on site.
  • Coordination of works in a residential school environment with a focus on safety and tidy working practices.

Technical considerations

The project required more than a straightforward replacement of accessories. The accommodation needed a reliable electrical installation suitable for day-to-day use by staff and residents, with suitable lighting, socket provision and distribution arrangements. Workmanship, containment, circuit routing and safe isolation were key considerations during the strip-out and rewiring stages.

Outcome

The accommodation was fully rewired with new lighting and socket outlets installed, and the LV distribution serving the building was brought into a more suitable arrangement for the upgraded accommodation. The experience demonstrates practical site delivery, electrical installation knowledge and the ability to work in sensitive residential environments.
